Research Interest:
My basic research interests are centered on increasing our understanding of microbial biodiversity, phylogenetics, systematics, and evolutionary biology, particularly the Actinobacteria and Myxobacteria.

My research program is focused in the following five areas: (1) Study of the isolation, culture, and characterization technology of different microbial. I am currently studying the isolation of Actinobacteria and Myxobacteria that represent different geographical environments; (2) Evolutionary relationships of Actinobacteria using the evidences from phenotype, genotype and phylogenetic characteristics; (3) To establish new microbe screening methods and screening models for the purpose of finding the potential economically significant strains; (4) To build a microbial information database; and (5) To develop methods for genetic strain improvement, to optimize the fermentation conditions, and to result in efficiency gains in industry.
