My research programs are focused on understanding the invertebrate systematics and biology, including Annelida(Leeches),Crustacea (Daphnia and Copepods), and Arachnida(Spiders). I have published new subfamilies, new genera, and more than 300 new species, and found new synonyms, new names, and new combinations by revising and correcting the previously misidentified Chinese spider species published by arachnologists in Germany and USA.
I am involved in studying the spider spinnerets, calamistrum, trichobothria, chromosome, sperm, and molecular characteristics, which has revealed additional characters supporting the monophyly and relationships between the cribellate and ecribellate spiders, and many other spider clades.
I am the Co-PI of the research project "High-level phylogeny of Hexapoda" funded by the National Science Foundation of China, co-advised students with Professor Kaiya Zhou on phylogenetics of the river crab genus Eriocheir, analyzed the phylogeneric relationships of the Araneidae spider genus Nephila, studied the high-level arthropods relationships and DNA sequencing of mitochondrial Gene of species, such as the Heptathelidae spiders, the spider species Selenocosmia huwena, and the Chinese mitten crab (Eriocheir sinensis).
Some of my recent research projects involve the classification of Hemimerus insects and the population-level molecular phylogeny of spiders.
I have been an academian of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) since 1999.
